In 1950, all the country was looking for uranium, and so were Olive and Ken White, Sr. The only Geiger Counters available used headphones and Mr. White quickly learned that headphones created a problem in rattlesnake country. So he invented a better product. In 1958, the U.S. government announced it would no longer purchase uranium and soon Mr. White was persuaded to build a metal detector.
